Kite Features
4 struts
Non-bow hybrid
IDS bridle and 2nd stage depower
– thanks to IDS, which is short for Intelligent Depower System, the rider has to put in the minimal amount of effort and input and despite this, he gets an extraordinary level of control in return. Only Cabrinha kites feature the IDS bridle and control system, which delivers precise steering control and precise power control with no bar pressure.  The IDS system provides 2 stages of depower – while riding you have Interactive Depower On Demand; whole trying to land the kite, you have Absolute Depower. The later, Absolute Depower, uses only 4 lines but manages to offer the same functions of a 5-line system. Unlike a 5-line system, it is a lot easier to use.
Powerdrive IDS bar
Sprint
– easy to use inflation system
Improved LE Closing seam
Ultra Bomb Canopy
– an insurance that the kite and bar are extremely durable
Tuning options
The Cabrinha team took the best parts of its top of the line kites, blended them together, and came up with the 2010 Convert IDS, a kite that will go up in a large variety of wind ranges. Not only will it go up, but when it does so it will be incredibly easy to handle. Controlling, handling, and relaunching this kite will be a piece of cake, no matter what the conditions.
As the Cabrinha team explained, its main areas of interest when developing the 2010 Convert IDS were versatility and value. Cabrinha focused on developing an easy to handle, secure kite that offers all-around performance at a reasonable price. As a matter of fact, if you were to compare the 2010 Convert IDS with other kites, if you were to make a feature to feature comparison, you would discover that the 2010 Convert IDS is the best value kite out there.
I mentioned above that with the 2010 Convert IDS Cabrinha blended together the best parts of its top of the line kites. Here are some specific examples: the Intelligent Depower System (IDS for short), the Sprint inflation system, the Powerdrive IDS control bar, and the Overslide IDS sliding mechanism.
Control Bar
For this year’s range of kites Cabrinha has the 2010 Powerdrive IDS, a control bar that meets the riders’ need for dynamic function and kite control. For the 2010 Powerdrive IDS bar to meet these requirements the Cabrinha team had to completely redesign the Powerdrive IDS control system. In this redesign process the user interface was streamlined and many new features were added. What Cabrinha ended up with in the end is its “most refined and evolved control system to date.”
2010 Powerdrive IDS features:
Internal landing line
– the IDS landing line has been internalized into the main depower line. As Cabrinha explained, the reason why the landing line has been internalized is to protect it from the elements and to make the control system a little bit simpler. The IDS landing line is right there when you want it; but when you don’t want it, it’s out of the way.
OverSlide IDS
– thanks to the all new OverSlide stopper unit, the rider can let go of the control system (temporarily) in order to address spins in the control lines. The all new OverSlide Stopper unit is also a means to contain the bungeed power adjusters. The rider can position the OverSlide stopper unit, which is a sliding system, anywhere on the main depower line.
Redesigned floating bar ends
Redesigned swiveling security pin
Redesigned QR2
New bypass leash attachment point
Remodeled QR
Reduced sizes
Wind Range
3.5m – 26 knots and upwards
5m – 20 knots and upwards
7m – 19 knots and up to about 26 knots
9m – 14 knots and up to about 21 knots
12m – 10 knots and up to about 17 knots
15m – 8 knots and up to about 16 knots
Please note that the wind ranges are based on a 75kg (165lbs) rider. Actual wind ranges may vary according to your body weight and ability level, and according to water conditions, board size, and riding style. You should always use common sense and your personal experience when selecting a kite size. If you don’t know what kite size to use, talk to other riders and see what they’re using on the water.
