This listing is for a gorgeous Kirk Sterling Silver "Repousse" sauce/gravy boat with under tray with beautiful repousse floral design, #278

Sauce boat measures 5 3/4" high, 8 1/2" long and 3 3/4" wide.
Oval tray measures 8 1/2" long and 5 1/2" wide.
Total weight is 500 grams.
This lovely sauce boat and tray are decorated with an all-over chased floral design. The silver has great original patina and
is in excellent
Estate condition with no damage or noted flaws other than possible faint signs of normal (minimal) wear.
Marked "S. Kirk & Son Inc., Sterling, 278" and "Hand Decorated" on base of each piece. No monograms
. This Kirk mark was used from 1932-1979.
This beautiful sauce boat and under tray were purchased with several other hard-to-find Repoussse pieces from the Estate of Jean Ewing Love of Columbia TN. Please check our eBay Store for more unusual pieces from this private collection.
The iconic "Repousse" pattern by S. Kirk & Son made its debut in 1828 making it the oldest Sterling Silver pattern produced in the United States where its remained to this day as one of the most popular patterns ever created. To create this pattern, the Philadelphia trained silversmith Samuel Kirk revived an ancient technique known as "repousse" to create an embossed design that is both versatile and instantly recognized.
